Who cares?

I think this is a valid question? Does the average college football fan care about who wins the heisman trophy anymore?
I mean besides the fans who have a player from their favorite team in the running. And besides the die hard college football fans who track every statistic from touchbacks to yards after catch. I'm talking to the average college football fan.
Questions I ask myself are "What does this award mean anymore?" "Does this winning this award translate in anyway to playing football at the next level?" And my answer is no it doesn't. There are so many heisman busts that isn't funny. Eric Crouch, Matt Leinart, Troy Smith, Jason White. And those are just recent winners. But there is some promise with recent winners like Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota. But they are a minority.
Also, there are years like 2004 where Matt Leinart wins the heisman with Adrian Peterson as the runner up. Or 2006 where Troy Smith wins the heisman with Darren McFadden as the runner up. And Calvin Johnson finished 10th in the voting. The losers in these races were arguably better players in college but definitely better players in the NFL.
So I'm asking, Do you care who wins the heisman every year?
